EV charging should just work.

The client
Nexton is an innovative company trying to revolutionise the energy industry. One of their visions was to build charging stations from the ground up through their own R&D and deliver a harmonious, reliable experience for every driver who plugs in.
Their vision: 99.9% of all charging sessions should be successful. No failed payments, no connectivity issues, no standing in the rain wondering if your car is actually charging.
The challenge
When Nexton first came to us, they had already progressed quite far with the hard technical work: the hardware, the firmware, and the station itself. But the product wasn’t ready for the everyday user. The mobile application and human-machine interface were missing the polish and reliability needed to put a real customer in front of it.
EV charging, as anyone who’s tried it knows, is surprisingly fragile. A wrong connector type, a payment system failure, or a break in communication between a station and a power grid – any one of these can leave a driver stranded. Nexton wanted to solve that, and they needed a partner who could own the client-facing side of the product entirely.
What we did
Our involvement grew in stages alongside Nexton’s own development.
Design came first. We refined their visual design and UI for both the mobile app and the HMI. The brand foundations were already in place, but the execution needed completion. We worked with what was strong and elevated the rest.
EU certification support followed. Before the charging station could go to market in key European territories, Nexton needed to meet regulatory requirements. We supported their backend development during this period, helping build out payment systems and the technical infrastructure required to achieve certification.
Mobile app development was the turning point. When we built and launched the full mobile application in 2024, it changed everything. Nexton ran their first proper marketing campaign off the back of it. For the first time, drivers could interact with stations reliably, pay without friction, and actually trust the process.
Our focus throughout was the human side of the product. The moments where technology either earns trust or loses it.
Ongoing partnership
This wasn’t a one-off project. We’ve been part of Nexton’s development cycle across multiple phases: design, certification, and go-to-market.
The story of Nexton isn’t one dramatic pivot. It’s a company that built something genuinely from scratch and chose to bring us along for the journey.
